if you plan on heading down to the outer banks this summer---be ready! there are major beach access issues. the court has forced the park service to block access to major chunks of the beaches to all access---both 4x4 and on foot---the issue is nesting shore birds......the whole island economy is in the trash can big time......and combined with the cost of gas they are really hurting down there. the spots you can get to are packed and i saw several accidents with folks getting run over by people on waves either with no clue or just no where to go other than just run them down----one girl had her face totally trashed! sad and scary.....the whole lighthouse area was just nuts to surf. we found a few out of the way spots that were very tide dependent , you need to work to find and get into them.....it's sad the courts are killing the island to save a few birds....

hey man the best way to get access to good waves is know where all the mysto sand bars are gonna pop up, i have a house down there, believe me the bars arent that hard to come across, walk around, be nice to the locals too it'll go real far, i personally am going down thursday to catch the hurricane swell thats supposed to hit, should be pretty fun. it sucks you didnt have a good time, im jsut sayin with the right attitude and some willingness to walk you can get some of the best surf sessions of your life

MGSURFER-----HEY , i had a good time ,i have a place there too, it's that the access you thought was there ,isn't! being cool to the locals has nothing to do with this---you CAN't walk around, you can't go,period!----several sections i've been surfing for years can't be gotten to by any means---the locals are hurting down there for $$ the summer season pays their bills....
