i have not been to bali since the year 2000, but maybe i can help. there were really no surf camps in bali last time i was there. i had been there first in 1989 and last in 2000 so i have seen the changes and have some good knowledge of the area. some friends still travel alot in the region. (recently had 2 kids so really limited water time) the best "camp" nearby is G-Land. you can sign up for the camp in kuta/legian at the G-Land surf shop. make sure you go to the original camp (bobby's camp) they will organize your travel , pick up at hotel, and transport to the camp. its a couple hour journey from bali to java. now they have boat and helicopter service if you have the cash, otherwise its a BIMO ride from kuta across the ferry and down to G-Land. it's worth the trip one time just for the expierience. in bali you can get a cab/bimo to any spot or you can get boats off the beach that will take you to kuta reef, padang, uluwatu or wherever. if you stay in bali, find a good surf mate (there are lots of surfers there) team up, share the cost and be cool and careful. dont be a dickhead american and dont flash the cash. if i were you, i would take a boat charter. take one of the trips from bali and head east. you can do a week trip to sumbawa, lomboc (desert island rocks), nusa lombongan (shipwreaks) same cost as a camp but way better!! check out the aussie site surf travel company or evn quicksilver travel. you cant go wrong either way. finally, indonesia is the most populated muslim country in the world. be careful, safe, travel with "good friends" not locals, dont do drugs, dont be loud or "american" and surf great waves in one of the most unreal places on this planet. you are also going during their winter and don't be surprised to get 10 to 15 foot hawaiin style waves. you will tell your friends it was 50 feet but either way its f ' ing awesome. bring a 6 10 to 7 foot gun for serious tubes or buy a used one in kuta. good luck and i am jealous. jiggi jiggi (you will learn that later) ps. make sure you check the young girls before you come home that they are not young boys!! hey, hey..
